Lorsque la guerre \u00e9clata, en 1939, le bombardier\u00a0<i>Wellington<\/i>\u00a0se montra aussi efficace que son fr\u00e8re d&#8217;armes, le\u00a0<i>Spitfire<\/i>. Il fut le premier avion de la RAF \u00e0 bombarder le continent. En d\u00e9cembre 1939 il attaqua les ports allemands de Bremerhaven et Wilhelmshaven. Lors de l&#8217;offensive du 10 mai 1940, il intervint en Hollande, en Belgique et dans le Nord de la France, pour tenter d&#8217;enrayer la progression des panzers. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Apr\u00e8s la bataille de Dunkerque, certains\u00a0<i>Wellington<\/i>\u00a0furent \u00e9quip\u00e9s d&#8217;un syst\u00e8me de d\u00e9tection des mines magn\u00e9tiques, travail qui pr\u00e9sentait de s\u00e9rieux dangers car, lorsque les mines explosaient, l&#8217;avion \u00e9tait violemment secou\u00e9. Apr\u00e8s 1941, les\u00a0<i>Wellington<\/i>\u00a0servirent en Afrique. Lors de la bataille d&#8217;El-Alamein, ils intervinrent en force contre les convois militaires ennemis et contre les ports occup\u00e9s par les Allemands (Tobrouk et Bengazi), puis ils continu\u00e8rent la campagne comme bombardiers de nuit.
