WHIF
The finished models:
The WHIFs:
So this section is a bit of a grab bag. It’s basically whatever else I build that doesn’t fit into one of my other main project areas. Often these builds are ones where I wanted to try out a new technique, or ones where I needed a specific subject to able to join a group build. Sometimes though, they’re just an itch I needed to scratch.
In this section, I have no real plan… but here’s the list such as it is:
The passion:
“What if…”
What a great phrase! I’m not entirely sure who coined the phrase “What If” or “WHIF” (for short) as it pertains to scale modelling, but it’s a great concept.
- “What if… I paint this MiG-21 in Royal Airforce livery?”
- “What if… I extend the wings on this Me-262?”
- “What if… I add a propellor to the top of this Fiat 500?”
- What if… I glue the back end of a rubber snake to the front end of a motorcycle and paint the whole thing blue?”
For someone like me, who prefers the tactile building process over the attempt to make as true to life a representation of a car/plane/tank as possible… well it’s a godsend. It’s scale modelling that sacrifices knows the difference between precision and accuracy.
